Carla began her career on the Public Affairs faculty of Leiden University (the oldest university in the Netherlands, founded in 1575), and the University of Indiana in Bloomington. Driven by curiosity, she made the transition to work as an executive. She has had operational responsibilities for many years over middle managers from finance, engineering, field services, computer systems, and legal affairs. She has been involved in many turnaround and change processes. The last decade she has been working as a consultant, trainer, and facilitator. Her masters-in-law is from the Erasmus University. Carla also has a masters-degree in history of the Leiden University.

In addition, she writes and speaks on leadership, turnaround processes, and management.
